Robert G. Mata, Sr., 63, of Willow Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Monday, March 18, 2013 at his home.
There will be no visitation, cremation will take place.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for Friday, March 22, 2013, 2:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Father Valentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating.
Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Robert Mata, Sr. was born November 25, 1949 in Pecos, TX to Maxmillano "Chano" and Maria (Garcia) Mata. Robert was a custodian for Lakeview Nursing Home for several years before becoming ill. He loved not only working as a custodian at the Living Center but became very close friends to the residents. Robert enjoyed doing yard work around the Carlsbad area during his spare time and making asado and his favorite, beans. Robert loved family, he especially enjoyed his nephews, nieces and sisters. He met and married the love of his life, Bessie Trevino Mata. Robert served in the Army in Germany. He was a member of San Jose Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bessie Trevino Mata; brothers: Joe Mata, his best friend and brother, Eismael Mata and Willie Mata.
He is survived by his two sons: Steve Mata and wife, Marlene of Questa, NM, Robert T. Mata, Jr. of Carlsbad, NM; two grandchildren: Fernadine Roberta Mata, Darren Mata; three step-children: Terry Flowers and husband, Mark, Maryann Lozano and husband, Aldolfo, Tony Zapata; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Max Mata, Jr., Alvin Nichols Mata; seven sisters: Lydia Baeza, Elena Acosta, Carolina Lujan, Felipa Mendoza, Eloisa Galvan, Andrea Gomez and Dora Mata.
