He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1966. Bobby enlisted in the US Marine Corp at the age of 17 years old and served in active combat in the Vietnam War. At age 19 he lost both legs and suffered many other severe injuries in the line of duty. Like the true American Hero he was, he never allow his disability to limit what he could do. He enjoyed years of snow skiing, motorcycles, bicycling, dancing and anything else that crossed his mind to do. Bobby loved to have fun, he was extremely witty and loved to play jokes on people, spend time with friends, and aggregate anyone he got the chance to. Bobby was always helping someone in need. He gave rides to people all the time; would buy meals for people and also let countless people stay at his home when they had no place else to go. He endured years of pain and suffering due to his injuries yet he never regretted what he did for his country. He was a proud Marine. Bobby was a member of the VFW and the DAV. He was a proud recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Bobby will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Brenda Goodson. Survivors are his niece, Shara Browning and husband, Steve of Carlsbad, NM; great-nephews: Steven Browning of Alamogordo and Kyle Browning and wife, Kimberly of Carlsbad, NM; great-great-nephews and nieces: Lexi, Aspen, Cypress, Kyle, Jr., and Colton; cousins, Charles and Doris Thompson; treasured friends: Pam King, Dean Nesbit and Gary Sedgwick.
