Robert Howard Dillard, 74, of Forrest Drive, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away April 7, 2011 at Carlsbad Medical Center.
At his request, cremation has taken place and there will be no public service. Bob will be interred with his son at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque, NM.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Robert Howard Dillard was born in Macon, Georgia on October 13, 1936 to Ernest and Sara (Frye) Dillard. He graduated from high school in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Bob married Beverly Heritage on August 5, 1956 in St. Petersburg, Florida. He attended the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where he received a degree in European History in 1957. While in graduate school at UNC, Bob taught Russian History and also taught at Wake Forest University. They moved to New Mexico in 1967 and later to Carlsbad in 1971. Bob taught in the Loving School District from 1989 until he retired in 2000. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. Bob was preceded in death by his father, mother and step-father, William T. Waller, Jr. and son, Robert Paul Dillard in October 1999.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Dillard of Carlsbad, NM; two sons: Terry B. Dillard and wife, Elizabeth of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren: Matthew Dillard of Albuquerque, NM, Jessica Dillard of Albuquerque, NM.
