Robert Cassels, 87, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away April 2, 2010 at his home. Visitation will be 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, April 9, 2010, 2:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brad Coates and Chaplain Ed Kneeland officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Robert G. Cassels was born July 6, 1922 in Wynona, Oklahoma to William Oscar and Miranda Elizabeth (Nash) Cassels. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1942. Robert served his country in the US Army during WWII and received a Purple Heart. Robert married Ruth R. Parks on December 5, 1944 in Carlsbad, NM. They moved to Carlsbad after Robert was discharged and he worked at IMC for 15 years. They moved to Las Vegas, NV where he worked for Caterpillar 30 years. Robert and Ruth returned to Carlsbad in 2006. He enjoyed fishing and being with his grandkids and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth Cassels; grandson, Charlie Cassels; six brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his son, Donald Cassels and wife, Arlene of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Beth Galloway and husband, Ray of Carlsbad, NM; four grandchildren: Reg Galloway, Cindy Brown, Andy Cassels and Jimmy Cassels; nine great-grandchildren; also considered family, Mary Torrez and husband, Roy and Cathy and Tony. Pallbearers will be Manuel Garcia, Gene Cassels, Jerry Cassels, Tony Torrez and Tony Guevara. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
