Robert "Bob" Knox, 89, of North Canal Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Lakeview Christian Home.
At Bob's request, no public services will be held and cremation has taken place.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Robert "Bob" Knox was born May 10, 1926 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII from 1944 to 1946 earning a Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and Philippine Liberation Ribbon. Bob moved to Carlsbad where he met and married Grace Landess on June 12, 1951. Bob later went to work in a local potash mine and retired with AMAX after 34 years of service. He was a member of the New Mexico AFL-CIO and was the youngest vice-president elected to that position. During that time, Bob and Grace owned and operated the Knox Frame and Trophy Shop. He was a life time member of the B. P. O. Elks # 1558 and National Rifle Association. Bob was also a member of the New Mexico Mounted Patrol where he attained First Lieutenant status prior to his retirement. Bob was a Master Mason in Eddy Lodge # 21, a member of the Ballut Abyad Shrine, Scottish Rite and an active member of the American Legion. Bob spent many hours raising funds for the Shriners Children's Hospital including children's transportation. He loved fishing, hunting, woodworking, spending time with family, being called "Bubby" by Jake and Jandi and was always up for a good joke.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Knox of Carlsbad, NM; sons: Jeff Knox and wife, Jody of Carlsbad, NM, Harold Knox and wife, Wanda of Nine Mile Falls, WA; grandchildren, Jake Knox and Jandi Knox; brother, Donnie Underhill and wife, Leann of Lansing, MI and several nieces and nephews.
