Rob Christiansen passed away on May 11, 2023, after having a heart attack. In life he was surrounded by his family, friends, and colleagues. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service is scheduled for 3:00 PM Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the Calvary Assembly Church with Pastor Phillip Price officiating.
Rob was born in Albuquerque, NM on January 18, 1969. He was adopted when he was three days old by his parents Bob and Helen Christiansen. His parents had been trying for years to have a baby and were thrilled when they received the call about Rob. The social worker told Rob’s parents they would leave them in a room with Rob to see if they bonded and if they wanted to take him. Rob’s dad said, “We don’t care if he is a squirrel-We are taking him!”
Rob has an older sister Tracie Beth who is fourteen years older than him and a younger sister Kelli who is 18 months younger than him. Rob loved his parents and sisters and said he had a wonderful childhood!
Rob was a boy scout for years and received his Eagle Scout when he was 15 years old. Rob’s parents helped out the Scout Leaders-The Parents all worked together and were friends, and the Boys worked together, hung out together, and were friends.
During Rob’s high school years, Wendy and he dated for a year and a half. They first met at a youth activity at Fox and Lake Church of Christ. They were involved in the youth group and both were baptized on the same day. Rob’s dad passed away when Rob was 16 almost 17 years old. Rob was very sad and not himself so Wendy and Rob went their separate ways. Rob attended NMSU and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He was following in his dad’s footsteps. He learned later this was not his dream career and he wasn’t passionate about accounting.
Rob and Wendy reunited 10 years later, dated 5 months, and then got married. It was Truly Their Love Story. The two had a blended family-His, Hers, Ours, and Others and later All became Theirs-Meagan, Dakotah, Brittany, Garrett, and Gunner, with 7 Grandkids added to Love!
Wendy and Rob have been married for 27 1/2 years. Every day was beautiful, even with its challenges.
Rob returned to School in 1996 to obtain his Teaching License, and this is where he found his calling. His True Passion was working with students, parents, and colleagues. Rob taught at the Carlsbad High School, Alta Vista Middle School, and Carlsbad Enrichment Center. Rob was so passionate about teaching; he inspired Wendy to go to school and obtain her Teaching Degree. Their schedules as teachers were the Best! They could spend time together with their kids during holidays and the summer months. As if the two didn’t have enough children in their lives with their own kids and students, they were also Foster Parents for 5 years. Rob returned to school to obtain his Master’s Degree in Counseling and later after that obtained his Administrators License to be at The Carlsbad Enrichment Center. Rob has been employed with the Carlsbad Municipal School District since 1997 minus two years when they moved to the Corpus Christi area.
Right after being married in 1995, Rob became a Member of the Carlsbad Elks Lodge #1558, where he enjoyed socializing, spending time with friends, and hanging out at the pool in the summers with the family. Rob worked his way through the chairs, some more than once, and was the Exalted Ruler in 2003/2004. He went to several competitions and he had many wins! Rob enjoyed spending time at the Elks and considered everyone a friend. He volunteered for committees over the years and was on the Board a few times.
Some other things that Rob enjoyed doing and what he loved the most in Life were: God, Wendy, his kids and grandkids, his friends, his colleagues, his students successes, Star Wars, Marvel, DC, movies, books, music, learning, researching, the environment, planting trees, flowers, and plants, cooking/grilling, working out, socializing- he loved people’s energy, laughing, joking, fishing, camping in the camper, traveling, relaxing at the Beach at least once a year. Rob was a softie and would cry about Americanism, veterans, movies, commercials, anything he thought was beautiful and had a special meaning to him.
Rob was a beautiful person inside and out! He would always tell Wendy - “I hope I am remembered for being kind.” Rob was friendly to everyone. He loved hard, forgave easily, was easy going, was a good listener, and he was genuine. He had a fun personality and everyone wanted to be around him and wanted to be his friend. It was always a good time with Rob, and you would feel comfortable and at ease. Wendy found a verse Rob had highlighted and written out on a sticky note from 1 Corinthians 10:24, “No one should see their own good, but the good of others.”
Rob and Wendy had conversations about one day one of us passing, and one of them being left alone. They sure didn’t think it would be before they were in their 80’s or 90’s! They both agreed they had wonderful childhoods, their marriage was beautiful and one of a kind, their kids and grandkids were healthy and beautiful. They have had fun spending time with family and friends.
They had been on trips, vacations, the beach, they spent all the time they could together, and they were best friends. They Loved the Lord and Loved their Life together! Rob said, “If I were to pass away tomorrow, I would have No Regrets! I have been blessed, and I have had a Beautiful Life!”
We will all remember Rob!
We will all miss him!
He will forever be in our hearts and we will have the best memories of him.
Rob would want us to continue to live life, to be positive, to enjoy and find the good in every day and in everyone, to love each other, and to be kind and support each other. We will all see him again one day in Heaven!
