Richard S. Gipson, Sr., 67, of Tidwell Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Friday, August 17, 2012 at Carlsbad Medical Center. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, August 25, 2012, 2:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Tarvin officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Richard S. Gipson, Sr. was born July 27, 1945 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. He graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1963. As a young man, Richard, worked at his father's service station. He went to work for Santa Fe Railroad and retired at the age of 60 as a licensed Electronic Technician after more than 35 years of service. Richard was an avid reader of western novels and collected western relics. He was proud to be a life member of BOPE Elks Lodge # 1558. He was a very loving, nurturing and caring father and husband and will be dearly missed. Richard was known to always bring a smile to everyone around him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Margueritte White. Survivors are his wife, Sandra Gipson of Carlsbad, NM; five children: Debra Abeyta and husbnad, Louis of Tucumcari, NM, Brenda Foote and husband, Albert of Clovis, NM, Carol Ward and husband, Bill of Clovis, NM, Denna Solon of Portland, Oregon, Tammy Sue Wells and husband, Robbie of Carlsbad, NM; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Theresa Goldston and husband, David; brother, Martin White and Joyce and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to BPOE Elks Lodge # 1558, P.O. Box 249, Carlsbad, NM 88221-0249. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
