Richard "Ricky" A. Smead

Richard A. "Ricky" Smead, 54, of Townsend Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2012. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, August 28, 2012, 10:00 AM, at Carlsbad Family Fellowship, 2107 West Church Street with Pastor Gary Wolfe and Rev. Gerald Harden officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Richard A. "Ricky" Smead was born on November 6, 1957, in Carlsbad, NM, to Paul and Joy (Lynch) Smead. He married Terrie West on November 6, 1978, here in Carlsbad. Ricky went to work in the oil field and later for Mosaic Potash where he had worked the past 20 years. He was a mechanic and loved working on anything that had a motor. Ricky could also add a motor to anything that didn't already have one. As a young man, he was a member of First Christian Church and currently attended Otis Baptist Church. Ricky was a member of United Steel Worker's Union, #188A. He was loved by all and will be missed by many. Ricky was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Paula Jones. Survivors are his wife, Terrie Smead of Carlsbad, NM; sons: Cecil Smead and wife, Stacy of Lubbock, Texas, Steven Smead and wife, Kathleen of Carlsbad, NM, and Jerry Smead and wife, Katrena of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Richard, Kiana, Erick, Natalie, Jeri, Angelica, Margaret, Ashton and Caden; siblings: David Smead and wife, Jane, Evenlyn Martinez and husband, Manuel, Phillip Smead and Richard, and Phyllis Gerk; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Honorary pallbearers will be John Cunningham, Justin Cunningham, Cecil Smead, Steven Smead, Jerry Smead and David Smead. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
