On February 20th of 2010, Rick Sowers of Hobbs, NM passed away peacefully in his home. Lodge of Sorrows will convene on Thursday, 2:30 PM at the Masonic Lodge. Memorial and Masonic Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, February 25, 2010 at First Christian Church, 1002 West Church Street, with Rev. David Wilson Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the services. Rick was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on January 5, 1948 to John and Mollie Sowers. Rick worked in the Construction Industry as a Construction Manager in Carlsbad, NM but most recently worked in Hobbs for the Hobbs, Eunice and Jal School Districts. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1966 and received a Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management from the College of the Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico. On March 29, 2003, Rick and Kathy Coalson were married in Carlsbad. Both Rick and his wife, Kathy, were lifelong residents of Carlsbad until 2005 when they moved to Hobbs. Two of his greatest passions in life were playing golf and racing corvettes. He was a member of the Masonic and Elks Lodge's of Carlsbad, NM. Many adventures abroad were spent in Mazatlan, Mexico. Rick was a family man and was dedicated to both his family and friends, which was so often enjoyed sitting on his back porch watching the amazing New Mexico sunsets. Rick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother his entire life. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Sowers of Hobbs, NM; daughters: Jill Sowers of Carlsbad, Molly Sowers of Hobbs, Lori Ramos of Denver, CO and Richelle Sowers; his son, Casey and wife, Cindy Sowers of Carlsbad; two step-daughters: Penni Prendergast and husband, Bede of New Zealand, Amy Spangler of Hobbs; eight grandchildren and four step-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and loving friends. He is also survived by his sisters, Leona and husband, Jack Morse of Dillonvale, Ohio, Jeanne and husband, Rodney McDonald of Vian, OK, Tish and husband, Frank Vicente of San Angelo, TX; brother Harold "Butch" and wife, Linda Sowers of Carlsbad, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Julie Willis; brothers: Eugene and John Sowers, Jr. and sister, Virginia Huddock. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
