Richard "Jack" Tilton, 88, of Collins Avenue, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at his home. Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Friday, February 28, 2014 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A Graveside Service is scheduled for Saturday, March 1, 2014, 10:00 AM, at Carlsbad Cemetery with Brian McGonagill officiating. Masonic Funeral Rites will be performed by Eddy Lodge #21 AF & AM at the graveside service. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Richard "Jack" Tilton was born September 17, 1925 in Roswell, NM to Ona and Eustaphia (Vennum) Tilton. He graduated from high school in Pecos, TX. Jack joined the US Navy during WWII and served on the USS Steelhead. He went to work for Community Public Service in Pecos. In 1965 he moved to Carlsbad and worked for SPS as a meter technician, serving the Roswell, Artesia and Carlsbad areas. He married Rosemary McCormick in 1966. Jack was a member of Sunset Church of Christ. He was an avid bowler and at the age of 71 he became Carlsbad's oldest player to roll a 300 game. Jack was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosemary Tilton; son, James Tilton; daughter-in-law, Connie Tilton; son-in-law, Don Canady; granddaughters: Rebecca Tilton Adair, Jennifer Jo Shores Kiddle; one brother, Larry Sherrill and great-granddaughter, Samantha Canady. Survivors are sister, Darlene Kendrick; children: Janie Hall, Phil McCormick, Frank McCormick, Mike McCormick and wife, Tracey, Win Shores and husband, Byron, Chris Canady, Mayme Eaton and husband, Denny, Becky Smith and husband, Doyle, John McCormick and wife, Beth; 23 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
