Richard O. "Dick" Smith, 80, of East Blodgett Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at his home.
There will be no visitation, cremation will take place.
Memorial Service is scheduled for Friday, March 7, 2014, 2:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Rod Foster officiating.

Richard O. "Dick" Smith was born August 11, 1933 in Santa Rita, New Mexico to William and Lucille (Fooshee) Smith. He grew up in Hurley, New Mexico and attended college in Missouri before serving in the US Army for two years. Dick met Shirley Nunotani in Silver City, NM and they married in 1956. He graduated from Western New Mexico University in 1958. They moved to Carlsbad in 1960 where he worked for Duval 18 years. Dick worked in real estate for 12 years before retiring. He was an avid coin collector and a member of B.P.O.Elks 1558. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and one sister.
Survivors are his wife, Shirley Smith of Carlsbad, NM; three children: Owen Leigh Smith and wife, Laurie of Carlsbad, NM, Dawn Teru Cude and husband, Bruce of Amarillo, TX, Mark Toku Smith and wife, Christy of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Nathan Smith, Tami Lujan, Chelsie Cude, Alesha Melendez, Ryan Smith, Corey Cude, Devon Smith; great-grandchildren, Jake Lehning; sister, Helen Christiansen Brown of Carlsbad, NM and several nieces and nephews.
