Richard "Dick" L. Hunt

To know Dick Hunt was a privilege, to have been a member of his family was a gift from God. Dick Hunt was born August 6, 1933 to Ulyses M. and Lena O. Reeves Hunt in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He married Norma J. Means on April 30, 1951, and for almost 61 years, she has been his best friend and partner every step of the way. Together they had four children, nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren of which each one will profess to have been his favorite. On January 17, 2012 he passed away at home surrounded by his family after he fought a hard battle against cancer. There will be no visitation; cremation has taken place. A memorial service is scheduled on Saturday January 21, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dickie Means officiating. In his professional life, Dick worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company for many years, mostly located at Salt Flat, Texas. In 1970, the family relocated to Carlsbad where he became a partner at Valley Agency where he was a Real Estate Broker who focused on selling farms & ranches. Being such a lover of the land and livestock, it was only natural that he eventually became a rancher. He took on the challenge of running the operations at the Mayfield Ranch in Cornudas, Texas for 15 years until retiring back in Carlsbad in 2009. Dick was preceded in death by his mother, father, grandparents, and his mother and father in-law, Johnny and Thelma Means. Family survivors are wife Norma of their home, daughters Jan Nesbit of Carlsbad and Kathy Magby and husband Justin of Carlsbad, sons Johnny Hunt and wife Patty of Chandler, Oklahoma and Ronnie Hunt and wife Cheryl of Carlsbad. He is survived by siblings Marcia Westfall and husband Frank of Carlsbad, NM, Bob Hunt and wife Sue of California, and Zana Hicks also from California. The grandchildren of Dick are Tricia Aldaz and husband Gary, Curtis Nesbit and wife Lisa, Wesley Magby, Kristy Ross and husband Michael, Brent Hunt and Leianna Flores, Richard Hunt, Jacob Hunt and wife Jackie, Adam Hunt, Emily Hunt, and 10 great-grandchildren. Dick is also survived by his sister-in-law Bettye McKim and husband Bill of California, and also brother-in-law Oran Means and wife Shirley of Carlsbad. He is also survived and loved by many nieces, nephews, and his forever son, Steve Nesbit. His family was truly his greatest joy. Your expressions of love are the greatest donation the family can receive, and in lieu of flowers, please feel free to make gifts to a charity of your choice. The Lakeview Hospice was a great comfort, and donations to this worthwhile organization are always appreciated. Condolences may be expressed at www.dentonwood.com.
