Richard "Dick" F. Crew

Richard Franklin Crew passed away in his home on Friday, February 17, 2012. Dick was born on March 1, 1918 in West Branch, MI to James Edgar and Ella Louise (Robbins) Crew. He graduated from Pontiac High School and Michigan State University. Dick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering in 1941. On June 19, 1941 he married Naomi McNeal in Defiance, Ohio. After graduation he went into active duty with the Navy during WWII, attaining the rank of Lt. Commander. He attended Cal Tech and supervised the production of parts for naval aircraft. Dick was first employed with Socony-Vacuum, now Exxon Mobil, and later General Electric as a chemical engineer. He retired from Hitachi Magnetics in 1981. Dick was a passionate giver, volunteering at the Living Desert and Community Kitchen. He was a leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He achieved the rank of Eagle as a scout and earned the Silver Beaver award as a leader. He was an active member of the Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Oscar Crew, and his sisters Irene Matteson and Mary Bowers. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Naomi, his brother Louis Crew and wife Alice, and sons Richard E. Crew and wife Carole, Bruce Crew, Charles Crew and wife Judy, Wayne Crew and wife Rivanna, and daughter Sandra J. Lenneman and husband Gary, 10 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 24 at 2:00 PM in the Landsun auditorium. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
