Pastor Joe Henegar, 76, was born January 5, 1940, in Ramona, OK to Paul Arlis and Alta Jo (Street) Henegar.
Rev. Henegar studied at Southwestern Bible Institute, Friends University and Nazarene Bible College. He began preaching at the age of seventeen and spent his life in ministry.
He married Nancy Newton in Velma, OK on November 12, 1960. Following their wedding ceremony they began evangelistic meetings in Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas, Arkansas, New Mexico, California, Louisiana and Mississippi.
Pastorates included Assembly of God in Park City, KS; Grace Assembly of God in Roswell, NM; First Assembly of God in Clayton, NM; Northside Assembly of God, Colorado Springs, CO; First Assembly Of God, Tucumcari, NM; First Assembly of God, Las Cruces, NM; First Assembly of God, Portales, NM; Calvary Assembly of God, Pampa, TX; and finally their special gift from God, Dayspring Fellowship in Carlsbad, NM. Dayspring Fellowship was founded by Joe and Nancy and they pastored there for 13 years.
In addition to pastoring, Rev. Henegar was an accomplished piano tuner and technician. He studied piano tuning at a music company in Hobbs, NM and tuned hundreds of pianos throughout his lifetime.
Survivors include his wife Nancy, their three children Mark, Marletta and Terrill and four grandchildren. The eldest son Mark Henegar is married to Michon (Franks) Henegar, and their children are Dillan (21), and Shalyn (18). Their middle daughter Marletta is married to Pat Newman. The youngest son, Terrill, is married to Heather (Mauldin) Henegar and their children are Zachary (14), and Zaylee (9). Pastor Henegar also has eleven brothers and sisters, five of whom are still living: Gerald Henegar, Rex Henegar, Geraldine Henegar Claunch, Donna Henegar Moon and Joyce Henegar Polluck. Numerous nieces and nephews are included.
Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 2, 2016 at First Assembly of God Church with Dr. Gaylan Clauch officiating.
Private interment will take place in Farmington, NM.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
