Remigio Morales passed away, Saturday, November 30, 2013 at his home. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 4, 2013 from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church, 1002 DeBaca. A Vigil will be held at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at San Jose Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 10:00 AM at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Santa Catarina Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide Military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Remigio Morales was born on October 1, 1924 to Rita Fierro and Pedro Morales in Fort Stockton, TX and raised in Carlsbad, NM. He was a member of San Jose Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic minister and was a member of the Holy Name for many years and the American Legion. He was enlisted in the U.S. Army from August 26, 1943 to May 2, 1946. He came home on leave and married the love of his life, Helen Castaneda on December 1, 1944 and deployed the next day to Germany during World War II. Remigio received an honorable discharge from the military on May 2, 1946. During his tour of duty he received the American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and an Army Medical of Occupation. Remigio was a contract painter along with finishing houses and public buildings in the Carlsbad, Artesia, Roswell and the Hobbs area. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sonia; sons: Moses, Isaac, Remigio Jr. and Mike Morales; 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Survivors include his wife, Helen Morales of 70 years; 3 daughters: Viola Montanez of Eunice NM, Irene Armendariz, Veronica Morales of Carlsbad, NM; 6 sons: Jimmy, John, Ray, Orlando, Paul and Edward Morales all of Carlsbad, NM; 48 grandchildren; 107 great-grandchildren and 34 great-great-grandchildren.
