Refugia Acosta Martinez

Refugia Acosta Martinez, 73, of North 4th Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Monday, January 21, 2014 at Carlsbad Medical Center. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Monday, January 27, 2014, 10:00 AM, at Oasis Christian Fellowship with Pastor Alberto Alvarez officiating. Refugia Acosta Martinez was born July 4, 1940 in Loving, New Mexico to Seferino and Vicenta (Acosta) Martinez. She grew up in Carlsbad and attended school. At age 14 she went to Pecos and lived with her aunt. Refugia married and had four children and later moved to Odessa and went to work for a dry-cleaners. She later returned to Carlsbad and worked for Carlsbad Steam Cleaners and Best Cleaners for 25 years. Refugia was a member of Oasis Christian Fellowship. She enjoyed sewing, homemaking and church work. She was preceded in death by her parents and 15 brothers and sisters. Survivors are children: Carmen S. Aguirre of Carlsbad, NM, Louis Sanchez of Carlsbad, NM, Armida Lopez and husband, Felipe of Odessa, TX, Lisa Marie Sanchez and Andres Gonzalez of Carlsbad, NM; sister, Angelica Vasquez; 8 grandchildren: Eric Olivas, Joe, Leo, Gilbert and Stephanie Aguirre, Evelyn Dunn, Phillip and Jennifer Lopez; 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
