Refugia "Cuca" Buendia, 87, of Howard Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A vigil is scheduled for Sunday, January 8, 2017, 7:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday, January 9, 2017, 2:00 PM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Martin Cordero officiating. Interment will follow in Santa Catarina Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Refugia "Cuca" Buendia was born November 2, 1929 in Valentine, Texas to Pabalo and Eutimia (Ornalas) Vallejo. She married Delfino R. Buendia here in Carlsbad. Cuca was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joaquin Buendia and several brothers and sisters. Survivors are her son, Joshua Buendia; daughter, Brenda Buendia; children: Anna Tarango, Yolanda Zamora and husband, John, Norma Munoz and husband, Antonio, Armando Buendia and wife, Romelia, Dora Olivas and husband, Santana, Danny Buendia and wife, Norma, all of Carlsbad, NM; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings: Feliciano Vallejo of California, Tomasa Vellejo of Carlsbad, NM, Jesse Vallejo of Carlsbad, NM, Jane Vallejo of Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Marcos Munoz, Pedro Munoz, Santana Olivas, Ryan Buendia, Joshua Buendia and John Zamora. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com
