Ray "The Beast" Duran Ornelas

Ray (The Beast) Duran Ornelas, 68, of Loving NM passed away at 4:22 pm on June 23, 2024 at Carlsbad Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. Ray was born on January 23, 1956 in Loving to Cruz and Angela Ornelas.

Ray married his wife, Norma Leyva Ornelas of Carlsbad and had two daughters: Shayanne Leyva Limon and husband, Francisco Michael Limon, and Mariah Ornelas Magana and husband, Hector Magana Bazan; 8 grandkids: Francisco Q. Limon, Isaiah Limon, Emilio-Rey Ornelas Limon, Isidra Isabel Limon, Marivel Norma Ornelas Magana, Mariella Ornelas Magana, Hector Ornelas Magana, III, and Helena Ornelas Magana. 

Ray was well known in the Loving and Carlsbad area. He loved being with family, fishing, hunting, and listening to music. Ray was a big Denver Broncos fan. He loved watching football cheering on his Denver Broncos. Ray has left so many memories with a lot of people.

Ray was the life of the party always telling jokes, making people laugh. He was a loving and caring man, and great husband, father, and grandfather, uncle, and friend.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Cruz and Angelita Ornelas; brothers, Alberto Ornelas, David Ornelas and wife, Viviana, Mike Ornelas, Cruz Ornelas, Jr.; brother-in-law, Jack Molina; and sisters: Lucia Navarette and husband, Juan, and Ysabel Vasquez and husband, Lupe.

Ray is survived by his sisters: Marylou Murillo and husband, Victor, Angie Ramirez and husband, David, Chris Johnson and husband, George, Gloria Ornelas, Sally Estrada and husband, Pete, Rosa Molina, and Linda Vasquez and husband, Charlie; sister-in-law, Mary Ornelas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Pete Estrada, Larry Rainwater, Morayma Galindo, Pete Martinez, Harry Leyva, and Tom Armendarez. Honorary pallbearers will be Cruz Ornelas, Jack Joe Molina, Toby Murrillo, Sam Dominguez, Emilio Rey Ornelas Limon, and Tony Martinez (The Tiger).

Visitation will be at 5:00 PM, Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Loving, NM, followed by a vigil at 6:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 2:00 PM, Friday, June 28, 2024 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with Fr. Pasala Hruday Kumar officiating. Interment will follow in Loving Cemetery. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
