Ray Lee Camp, 85, of W. Pierce Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Covenant Medical Center, Lubbock, Texas.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, September 16, 2016, 1:30 PM, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Boyd officiating. There will be a second memorial service held at the B.P.O. Elks, Lodge 1558, at 3:30 PM with the Elks conducting.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Ray Lee Camp was born January 2, 1931 to Earl and Eva Dee Camp. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1948 and attended UNM where he met Susie. Ray married Susan L. Burnham July 7, 1951 in Hemet, California. He was drafted and served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Ray returned to Carlsbad and joined his father at Carlsbad Body Works which he owned and operated until selling the business in 1981. He then became an independent auto damage appraiser until retiring in 1996. Ray was a dedicated life member of B.P.O. Elks, Lodge #1558, where he served as Exalted Ruler, State President and National Ritual Judge. He served as an Eddy County Commissioner from 1994 to 2004 and also served on the State of New Mexico Governor's Personnel Board from 2010 to 2015. Ray enjoyed camping, hunting, golfing, RVing and spending time with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors are his wife, Susie Camp of Carlsbad, NM; sons: Brad Camp and wife, Kathryn of Littleton, Colorado, Don Camp and wife, Kimberly of Peoria, Arizona; daughter, Dina Marshall and husband, Brian of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Jonelle Mireles and husband, Sergio, Daniel Camp and wife, Emily, Ryan Camp, Carolyn Camp, Jason Camp, Brandon Marshall and Jillian Marshall and great-granddaughter, Adina Mireles.
