Raul M. Navarrete, 93, of Lea St., Carlsbad, NM, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2022 at the University Medical Hospital in Lubbock, TX; surrounded by his family and loved ones. Raul was born on October 27, 1928 in Carlsbad, NM to Pilar Navarrete Sr. and Paula Munoz Navarrete of Coyame, MX and Ojinaga, MX; respectively.
Raul and his beloved wife, Hermelinda Vasquez Navarrete were married on July 2, 1947 in Carlsbad, where they raised seven children. In his early career, he worked at Brown’s Grocery Store in the Produce Department and loved to share stories about his experience there. He also worked as a Warehouse Foreman at Duval and Western Ag., retiring after 35 years. Raul took great pride in his work and was an excellent provider for his family.
In his prime, Raul enjoyed playing football, boxing, and even dancing the Jitterbug. He won high school dance competitions with his smooth dance moves; something he was also very proud of. One of his favorite past times was visiting the car dealerships. His ability to drive a hard bargain was second to none and, as a result, his favorite hobby was driving vehicles of many different types of make and model. He also enjoyed traveling to Albuquerque and Roswell to attend the sporting events of his grandchildren, who loved him dearly.
Raul had a heart of gold and his word was his bond. He enjoyed helping others as he frequently opened his home to those in need. His compassion for others guided his decisions and he led by example. His adult children have followed in his footsteps as they provided a great deal of care for him during his time of need. He was very blessed in this area and he lived an extremely rich life. Raul was rich with love! Those who had the privilege of knowing him are blessed beyond measure. As a result of his humanitarianism, Raul’s generous spirit will be passed down from generation to generation as his legacy lives on.
Raul was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hermelinda Vasquez Navarrete; daughters, Lucy Holguin and Geraldine Navarrete; father, Pilar Navarrete Sr.; mother, Paula Munoz Navarrete; step-mother, Alicia Navarrete; brothers, Pilar Navarrete Jr. and David M. Navarrete; step-brother, Alfredo Armijo; and great grandson Caleb Duran.
