Raul V. Montoya

Raul V. Montoya, 57, of Carlsbad, NM, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 27, 2023 in Lubbock, TX. Visitation will be 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Monday, March 6, 2023 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home followed by a vigil at 6:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad, Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM.  Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Raul V. Montoya was born May 20, 1965 in Carlsbad, NM, to Elias and Ramona (Venegas) Montoya. He worked in several jobs before going to work at the potash mines. After twelve years in the potash mines, Raul went to work for the railroad until he became ill and was no longer able to work.

He enjoyed restoring old cars, camping and taking the jeep through the mountains. Raul cherished the time with his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Elias Torres Montoya; brothers: Usvaldo Montoya, Gilbert Montoya, Julian Montoya and Richard Montoya.

Survivors are his wife, Christina E. Montoya; daughter, Brianna Peavy and husband, Jason of San Angelo, Texas; sons: Jordan Palma and wife, Kirsty of Houston, Texas, Jonathan Montoya and wife, Cathi of Carlsbad, Anthony Larez and wife, Cinthia of Carlsbad; grandchildren: Aiken, Luke, Ava, Chanley, Jensyn, Aaliyah, James, Anthony and soon to be, Emery; mother, Ramona Montoya; brothers: Albert Montoya, Elias “Junior” Montoya, Jr., Joe Montoya, Alfredo “Freddy” Montoya and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Vincent Montoya, Gilbert Montoya, Albert “Brian” Montoya, Noel Montoya, Thomas Montoya and Justin Montoya.
