Obituary
Randy I. Garrett, 58, of Carlsbad, NM passed away August 7, 2018 in Carlsbad. Randy was born January 28, 1960 in Orange County, CA to Fontaine Singleton Garrett, Jr and Bernice Smith. The family moved to Carlsbad upon discharge from the hospital and he always joked that they warmed his bottles on the dash of the car as they drove. Randy graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1978 and went to work for GTE shortly after, following in the footsteps of his dad. He spent 33 years as a lineman and cable splicer for the phone company before retiring in 2012. Anyone who knew Randy knew his love for hunting, fishing and anything outdoors. He spent his life surrounded by friends and family doing the things he loved. His humor and smile would light up a room and you were sure to be teased or pranked when he was around. Randy was the true example of a friend and would happily go out of his way to help others. Of all the roles he held in life, his greatest pride was being Papa to his grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers include: Kim Colwell, Todd Suter, David Moody, Jack Dolan, Roy White, Mike Lane, Tate Moots and George Wheeler.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his daughter, Clancey McMillan and husband Chance of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren, Cayson and Chloe McMillan of Carlsbad, NM; brother, Fontaine Garrett III of Carlsbad, NM; and sister, Kathryn Lee of Midland, TX; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be 4:00 PM 7:00 PM, Friday, August 17, 2018 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
