Randall Ray "Pete" Tanner, 59, of Russell Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Covenant Medical Center, Lubbock, Texas. Visitation will be 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Friday, December 20, 2013, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, December 21, 2013, 2:00 PM, at First Baptist Church with Pastor D. Michael Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Randall Ray "Pete" Tanner was born on June 9, 1954, to Kenneth and Midge Tanner in Carlsbad, NM. He graduated from Carlsbad High in 1972. Pete was employed at Carlsbad Machine Shop for Scott and Valerie Branson. He worked as a fabrication and welding supervisor. Pete took great pride in his work. He met Dannette Lambert in 1990 and they married December 14, 1991. She is the mother of his two children: Chris, 21 and Megan, 18. Pete was a great husband, father, brother and friend. His first priority was his family. Pete enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved fantasy football and was a die hard Broncos fan. He was a pro motor cross racer in Texas and New Mexico and loved to teach kids the sport. Pete loved to play softball and he was a little league baseball coach for years. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Tanner; mother, Midge Weatherman; brothers: James Tanner and Wendell Tanner; sister, Teresa Meyer; nephew, Tracy Smith; and his grandparents. Pete is survived by his wife, Danette; son, Chris Tanner of Carlsbad; daughters: Megan Tanner of Carlsbad, Lindsay Tanner of Austin, Texas; Randi Tanner of Muleshoe, Texas; brother, Mike and wife, Crystal Tanner; sister, Sue and husband, Tony Evanoff; seven grandchildren: Alex, Brandon, Kylee, Byron, Kyle, Shyann, and Clayton; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Shawn Doyle, Kenny Murray, Dale Murray, Stan Kane, Roy Beeson and Ricky Streety. Honorary pallbearers are Beau Eagle and Tim Leyva. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
