Ramona Venegas Montoya

Ramona (Venegas) Montoya, 84, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. Ramona was born on July 11, 1939, in Chihuahua, Mexico to Celestino and Juanita Venegas.

Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Monday, December 18, 2023, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home, followed by a vigil at 6:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will take place at Santa Catarina Cemetery in Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ramona met Elias Montoya at the age of fifteen. They then got married and had nine boys together. Ramona loved her family very much, and she was loved by many friends and family. Her hobbies were sewing and dancing. She enjoyed riding Harleys as well as cooking homemade meals for her family. And when she wasn’t cooking, she was watching her western shows, “her cowboys”, as she would say.

Ramona was preceded in death by her father, Celestino Venegas; mother, Juanita (Almanza) Venegas; husband, Elias T. Montoya; five sons: Richard Montoya, Usvaldo Montoya, Raul Montoya, Julian Montoya, and Gilbert Montoya; granddaughter, Shakiri Montoya; and great grandson, Usvaldo Montoya, III.

Ramona is survived by her children: Freddy Montoya of El Paso, TX; Joe Montoya of Carlsbad, NM; Albert Montoya and wife, Tania of Carlsbad, NM; Elias Montoya and Sonia Pineda of Carlsbad, NM; Elias N. Montoya of Carlsbad, NM; Thomas L. Montoya of Carlsbad, NM; and Izak R. Montoya of Carlsbad, NM; twenty-nine grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be: Thomas Montoya, Elias Noel Montoya, Justin Montoya, Izak Montoya, Jesus Montoya, and Albert Venegas Montoya. Honorary pallbearers will be: Florencio Ruiz and Vincent Montoya.
