Ramona Melvin, aged 95, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away on August 24, 2024. Born on March 20, 1929, in Franklin County, Illinois. She was a cherished figure in her community and a pillar of strength for her family.
Ramona’s professional life was marked by her dedication to nurturing and supporting others. She co-owned and operated Cinderella Weddings, served as the director of Carlsbad Camp Fire Girls and the Child Development Center, managed a local dress shop, and worked as a Special Education Assistant with the Carlsbad Schools. Above all, she valued her roles as a mother, mentor and friend.
She was a devout member of Hillcrest Baptist and First Baptist Church in Carlsbad, where she also taught Sunday School for many years. Her commitment to her faith and community was evident in her numerous contributions and the love she shared with those around her.
Ramona’s hobbies included playing cards, crocheting, gardening, solving crossword puzzles, coloring, reading, traveling, engaging in construction projects and most importantly, serving others. Her life was a testament to her loving, honest, caring, intelligent, hardworking, and faithful nature.
She is survived by her children, Doris Melvin, Mark Melvin, Teresa and Walt Allery, Tom and Bev Worsham; grandchildren, Michelle Melvin, Michael Melvin, Kelly Melvin, Kristi Wirz, Melissa Overton; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Rae Melvin, Mike Melvin, Katie Melvin, Johnny Melvin, Isaac Melvin, Garrett Melvin, Ioni Wirz, Paxton Wirz, Nate Overton, Pete Overton, Elise Overton, Caroline Overton; and great-great-grandchildren, Peyton Melvin, Bowen George, Jasper Melvin.
Ramona was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Memmie Moore; husband, Roscoe Melvin; and children, Darrel Melvin and Beckie Melvin.
A service to celebrate Ramona’s life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Carlsbad, NM, on August 29th, 2024 at 10:00am. The Denton-Wood Funeral Home in Carlsbad, New Mexico is assisting with the arrangements. Her legacy of love and devotion will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
