Ramon Bustamante

Ramon Bustamante, age 88, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024, at his home surrounded by family and loved ones. Visitation will be 4:00 PM- 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Denton Wood Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM, Friday, May 3, 2024 at San Jose Catholic Church followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow Carlsbad Cemetery Carlsbad, New Mexico. 

Ramon Bustamante Carrasco was born August 6, 1935, in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Herculano and Josefa (Carrasco) Bustamante. 

Ramon, at a young age, was a part of the Bracero Program and then later moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1992. Ramon worked most of his life as a farmer and rancher. He married Elva Carrillo, and they were married for 63 years.  They had seven children: Sofia, Zulema, Hector, Rosa Elva, Eduardo, Leticia, and Jose Auden. Ramon worked before retiring with Martha Skeen Farms. He enjoyed being outside gardening, and spending time with family and friends. He loved raising cattle. 

Ramon was preceded in Death by his parents Herculano and Josefa Bustamante, his brothers Fidel Bustamante and Jose de la Luz Bustamante and grandparents. 

He is survived by his wife, Elva; children: Sofia (Antonio) Corrales of Odessa, Texas, Zulema (Jose) Rodriguez, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Hector (Sandra) Bustamante of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Rosa Elva (Francisco) Chavez of Chihuahua, Mexico, Eduardo Bustamante of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Leticia Bustamante of Carlsbad, New Mexico, and Jose A. Bustamante of Carlsbad, New Mexico; brother, Miguel Bustamante; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, as well numerous nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to thank Enhabit Home Health and Hospice for the care and support, Delia Ramirez and family members during his illness. Ramon will always be remembered as a great grandfather.
