R. V. Phillips

Raleigh Vergel (RV) Phillips, age 76, of Carlsbad, NM died on June 14, 2011in Carlsbad, NM. RV was born on a ranch near Richland Springs, TX on March 27, 1935 to Charlie Vergel Phillips and Addie Leen Alexander Phillips. RV was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He grew up in the Sonora/Ozona, TX area where he left quite an impression based on tales of his youth. He possessed such a flair for storytelling. He would so creatively and captivatingly relate accounts of his life with such entertainment. Many will tell you RV never met a stranger and had the most good-natured disposition. Though sometimes his life had been wrought with adversity and hardships, RV was ever the optimist. He would simply say, "We'll get by." No dark cloud was too much for RV to overcome with his positive outlook on life. RV married his best friend, Linda on March 19, 1963. RV and Linda shared forty-eight (48) years of love, sorrow, joy, heartache, triumph and pain. When RV spoke of Linda his admiration for her was evident. Their marriage produced four (4) children, Randy, Vicky, Kenneth and Jennie in whom they took great pride and joy. All of the children share the feelings that their father was kind, giving and strong, yet gentle all at once. Family was first for RV and Linda. Annually they deer hunted as a family, this event was greatly loved and has brought many warm memories of sitting around the campfire for all those who participated. RV is survived his four (4) children and their families: son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Angela Phillips, grandchildren, Shaylie Phillips, Caleb Phillips, Logan Phillips, David Solano, Sarah Solano, Jesse Solano and Olivia Alexander; daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Mike Lee, grandchildren, Jessica Lee and Mika Lee; daughter and son-in-law, Jennie and Twister Lewis, grandchildren Seven Lewis and Teddra Lewis; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Carolyn Phillips, their children, KyLen Phillips, Destinie Anderson, Holly Anderson, John Ross Anderson, Rebekah Anderson and Josiah Anderson, great grandchild, Victoria Elizondo; foster daughter, Kathy Benavidez. He is also survived by his brothers and their families: Dumas Phillips and Darcey Phillips. RV was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Kay Phillips, his brothers, Walter C. Phillips, Leo V. Phillips, Chess Phillips, Roland L. Phillips, Baby Phillips and Tolbert W. Phillips, sister, Lois Marie Phillips. A Memorial Service for both RV and Linda K. Phillips will be held at the Paradise Ranch Church, 49 Paradise Road, Carlsbad, NM with Pastor D. Michael Lee officiating, on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 1:00 PM. A dinner will be served following the service provided by the women of the church. Any flower arrangements or offerings can be taken to 708 N. 11th Street, residence of Mike and Vicky Lee.
