R. D. Beaver, 82, of L. Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at his home.
Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, July 2, 2012, 10:00 AM, at the Gazebo at Carlsbad Cemetery with Pastor D. Michael Lee officiating.
Masonic Service will be performed by Eddy Lodge # 21 AF&AM. A Lodge of Sorrow will convene at 9:30 AM, Monday, July 2, 2012 at Eddy 21, 517 N. Canyon Street, Carlsbad, NM.
Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
R. D. Beaver was born June 16, 1930 near Ballinger, Texas to R. D. and Cammie (Wilder) Beaver. He moved to Carlsbad in 1947 where he helped build and operate the Jumbo System Drive-In, now known as the North Y. R. D. married the love of his life, Winnie "Inez" Beaver on October 13, 1950 here in Carlsbad. He later helped establish and operate the original Red Chimney. R. D. then cooked for the Chuckwagon Caf, located next to the Stevens Motel. He was a partner in the A & W franchise in White's City and later in Carlsbad. In 1970, he opened Beaver's Restaurant and operated it until his retirement in 2010. Over 67 years he filled stomachs and brought smiles to the faces of the people of southeast New Mexico. R. D. now has gone fishing in heaven. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Winnie "Inez" Beaver; two sisters; and five brothers.
Survivors are three sons: Melvin Ray Beaver and wife, Patty of Purcell, OK, Robert David Beaver and wife, Laura of Carlsbad, NM, Charles Dean Beaver and Patricia Allen of Ruidoso Downs, NM; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Melvin Beaver, Charles Beaver, Robert Beaver, Chad Beaver, Clinton Beaver and Mark Allen Beaver.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 3160 Geneva Street, Los Angeles, CA 90020-1199.
