Obituary Phyllis Kay Powell, 67, of Chico Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Visitation will be 5:00 PM 7:00 PM, Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A vigil is scheduled for 7:00 PM, Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 15, 2018 at St. Edward Catholic Church with Fr. Pasala Hruday Kumar officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Phyllis Kay Powell was born June 23, 1950 in Wichita, Kansas to William J. and Mary Ellen (Bishop) Clark. She worked in the medical field in Wichita. She married Claude Powell January 16, 1982. Phyllis was active in the Humane Society. She moved to Espanola, NM in 1994 where she was active with the American Red Cross. Phyllis then moved to Carlsbad in 1996. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ellen Clark and William J. Clark. Survivors are her husband, Claude Powell of Carlsbad, NM; sons: Pepi Joel Powell of Detroit, Michigan and Brant Adam Powell of Wichita, Kansas; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Mayetta Nash of Wichita Kansas. Pallbearers will be Brant Powell, Edmond Powell, Bill McCroy, Larry Methola, James Lanham, Joe Stockton and Dr. Alexander Shydohub.
