Phyllis D. Ferguson, 87, of N. Sixth Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Friday, April 8, 2016 at Lakeview Christian Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, April 12, 2016, 2:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Land officiating.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Phyllis D. Ferguson was born March 25, 1929 in Carter, Oklahoma to Cleo Gervis and Dora (Hill) Davis. She attended schools in Carter, Oklahoma where she graduated high school. Phyllis attended Oklahoma College for Women (now University of Oklahoma) earning a degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences. She taught for two years. After college graduation, she married Truman Ferguson in 1951. They had two sons and moved to Carlsbad in 1953. Phyllis returned to teaching in 1968 and taught elementary school for 23 years and retired in 1991. She was a member of Cavemen Good Sams, Campers on a Mission and a member of First Baptist Church. Phyllis enjoyed travelling, fishing, crafts, sewing and genealogy.
Survivors are her husband, Truman Ferguson of Carlsbad, NM; sons: Gregory Ferguson and wife, Rhonda of Huntsville, Alabama, Grady Ferguson and wife, Ann of Carlsbad, NM and three grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 112 N. Alameda St., Carlsbad, NM 88220
