Perfecto R. Duran, Sr., 80, of Tovar Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A vigil is scheduled for Sunday, April 28, 2013, 7:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial are scheduled for Monday, April 29, 2013, 10:00 AM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Santa Catarina, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Perfecto R. Duran, Sr. was born on April 23, 1933, in Carlsbad, NM to Tomas Calderon and Juana (Rodriguez) Duran. He was a lifelong resident of Carlsbad. On April 23, 1949, Perfecto married Elpidia Miramontes. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2008. He worked as a baker for Holsum Bakery for more than 10 years. Perfecto later became a union carpenter, which took him on the road working in various cities. He was a member of San Jose Catholic Church. Perfecto enjoyed hunting and fishing at the ranch. He loved to spend time with his family and friends, enjoying Sunday picnics and making red chili asado. Perfecto also enjoyed traveling to Tucson to spend time with his sister and brother. He was always there for his family and was very caring and helpful. Perfecto was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Tony Duran; granddaughter, Christina Mata; son-in-law, Joe G. Mata; and sister, Julia Jacquez. Survivors are his daughters: Lorena Mata and Linda Sonora and husband, Higinio all of Carlsbad, NM; sons: Bobby Duran, Sr., Larry Duran, Sr. and wife Rosie, Perfecto Duran, Jr. and wife, Lena, Jerry Duran, Sr. and wife, Sylvia all of Carlsbad, NM; 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; sister, Concha D. Lopez of Tucson, Arizona; brother, Leroy Duran of Tucson, Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Robert Duran, Jr., Jerrald Sonora, Jerome Duran, Perfecto Duran III, Jerry Duran, Jr. and Jacob Pedroza. Honorary pallbearers are Danny Lopez, Armando Acedo, Joe Lopez, Jr., Sam Lopez and Perfecto's sons. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
