Penny Clark Burns, 65, passed away on December 17, 2015, at Covenant Palliative Medicine in Lubbock, Texas, surrounded by family. She was born to Floyd and Betty Clark on December 12, 1950, in Lamar, Colorado. Penny grew up in Lamar and graduated from Lamar High School in 1968. She attended Lamar Community College where she received an Associates in Arts; Western State College in Gunnison, CO, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Education; and New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM, where she received a Masters of Arts in Education. She worked as an English and Language Arts teacher for 20 years with the Carlsbad Independent School District. Penny married Nik in 1971 in Lamar, CO, and they were happily married for 44 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family (especially the grandkids), traveling, and telling stories. Penny is survived by her spouse, Nik of Carlsbad, NM; her daughter, Tasha of Austin, TX; her son, Scott (Lia) of Carlsbad, NM; her son, Jason (Jess) of Roswell, NM; her grandchildren: Alex and Austin; her parents, Floyd and Betty Clark of Lamar, CO; and her nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A celebration of her life will be held at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel, 1001 N Canal St, Carlsbad, NM, at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 2, 2016. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice or cancer research. Condolences may be left on the online guest book at dentonwood.com.
