Pedro "Pete" Echavarria, Sr. 67, a resident of the Carlsbad/Loving area for the past 40 years, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012 at his home. Pete is survived by wife, Carol of 47 years, three children, Pete Jr. of Fontana, Ca., Laurie Agapay, (James) of Rancho Cucamonga, CA and Debbie, Albuquerque, NM. Four grandchildren: Tonette, Zachery, Anessa, and Damian; one great grandchild, Riley. Pete was born in Jalisco, NM to Jose and Anastacia (Brito) Echavarria on September 1, 1944. Pete is also survived by four sisters, Mary Helen Martinez (Tino), Anita Granado (Adon), Socorro Ruiz (Carlos), Terry Calderon (David) and brother Victor Echavarria (Lynn) and his beloved canine companion Savannah, whom he called "his little shadow." He retired after 31 years of owning and operating Echavarria Construction Company. He enjoyed reading "How to books", watching CNN, The History Channel, listening and dancing to country music, "fixing" things and continuous learning. Pete was a "Doer" never letting things go unfinished. Per his wishes cremation has taken place with burial services at a later date. Rosary will be recited Friday, July 6, 2012, 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 302 South Fourth Street, Loving, NM. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM with Fr. Valentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the mass. Honorary pallbearers are his compadres, Tiburcio Villegas, Gilbert Quintela, Adon Granado, Sonny Granado, Manuel Anaya, Adam Granger and special friend Robert Torres.
