Pablo H. "Paul" Estrada, 55, of Haston Road, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Friday, August 23, 2013 at his home. Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, August 26, 2013, 2:30 PM, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Steve McCutcheon officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Pablo H. "Paul" Estrada was born January 9, 1958 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Alberto Franco and Crestina Brito (Hernandez) Estrada. He started his long time career with the Carlsbad Municipal Schools as a custodian in 1977 working at Headstart and Puckett Elementary schools. Paul began taking classes at Eastern New Mexico University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990 which allowed him to achieve his dream of teaching school. He then received a Masters degree in 1995 from NMSU-Carlsbad. Paul taught at Puckett, Monterrey and Hillcrest Elementary Schools before retiring in 2000. He was nominated for the Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 2000. Paul enjoyed traveling, photography, hiking and camping. He was preceded in death by his father, Alberto Estrada and sister, Emma Yanez. Survivors are his mother, Crestina Estrada of Carlsbad, NM; five sisters: Josie Trevino and husband, Taurino, Minnie Juarez and husband, Gilbert, Rosa Medrano and husband Isaias, Esperanza Mendoza and husband, Richard, Helen Anaya and husband, Gerald; seven brothers: Pete Estrada and wife, Sally, Oscar Estrada, Albert Estrada and wife, Dolores, Ruben Estrada and wife, Polly, Roy Estrada and wife, Irma, Henry Estrada, Richard Estrada and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. Pallbearers will be Pete Estrada, Oscar Estrada, Albert Estrada, Ruben Estrada, Roy Estrada, Henry Estrada and Richard Estrada. Honorary pallbearers will be Dwayne Mounce, Steve Mensch, Mike Dominguez and Dan Torres. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
