Orville "Popcorn" Smith, 74, of Ruidoso, New Mexico passed away Friday, May 5, 2017 in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, May 12, 2017, 10:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Associate Pastor Kevin Pence officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Carlsbad Honor Guard will be providing military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Orville "Popcorn" Smith was born October 5, 1942 in Poteau, Oklahoma to Eugene and Lena (Rice) Smith. He was an old cowboy- he lived the cowboy way. He loved being at the VFW. Orville always wanted to help up! No regrets. He was a veteran of the US Navy and received the Bronze Star during Vietnam. He was an avid coin collector. Orville is survived by his wife, Sharon Smith of Ordmore, OK; daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Josh Anderson and grandkids, Taylor Anderson, Justin Anderson, and Kaylie Anderson; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Renee Smith and grandkid, Nicole Smith Gandhi and great grandkid, Riya Gandhi; son and daughter-in-law, Cooper and Tamela Smith and grandkids, Emily Smith, Andrea Smith, Melissa Smith, Colton Smith, Samantha Smith, Sgt. Nathan Koivisto, Jesseka Koivisto, and 4 great grandchildren; brothers: Robert L. Smith and Dale Smith both of Carlsbad. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com
