Orlena Mann Hadley

Orlena Mann Hadley, 97, of Carlsbad, NM, passed away December 29, 2023 at her home.  Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.  Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Jones officiating.  Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM.

Orlena Mann Hadley was born on Aug. 18,1926 in Breathitt Co. KY. To Floyd Mann and Ellen Fugate Mann. The family moved to N.M in 1931.

Orlena married JB Hadley April 4, 1942, They had four children, a son Robert, daughters LaNell and Jeanette, and son James. She described their life together as happy and successful because of their honesty and loyalty to each other. JB was very compassionate and worked hard to provide for his family. Orlena was widowed in 1979. She attended College in Carlsbad after her children were older she took up typing, shorthand, and bookkeeping. She worked for the school administrative office as an administrative secretary for 25 years, until she retired in 1986. Orlena was a long time member of the Fox and Lake Church of Christ where she was secretary for the eldership and also volunteered for the Loving Care Center for many years.

Orlena enjoyed quilting, playing dominos with “the widowed ladies”. Spending time with her family and church family. Orlena was proud of her children and grandchildren and will be remembered for her faith, and kind sweet nature.

Orlena was preceded in death by her parents, her husband JB Hadley, and daughter LaNell Hadley Wilkins, brothers Gardner Mann, Floyd Mann Jr., and Arthur Mann, and a sister Hazel Weir.

Orlena was survived by her son Robert Lee Hadley and wife Ginger, Daughter Jeanette Chester and husband Dean, son James Arthur Hadley and wife Jill and son-in-law David Wilkins. Grandchildren; Rhonda Graham (Cliff), Philip P. Brown (Keri), Lori Poppe (Monte), Glen Wilkins (Nicole), Jennifer White (Casey), and Eric Hadley. Great Granchildren; Brittany Collins, Tessa Graham Rogers (Trevor), Tyson Graham (Brittney Veilleux), Miles Wilkins, Jonas Wilkins, Sara Poppe, Samuel Poppe, David Poppe, Ian Hadley, Blake Hadley, and Jonah White. Great-great grandchildren; Maddox, Paxtin and Jaxxon Collins.

The family wants to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the nurses from Enhabit Home Health and Hospice, and their gratitude to special caretakers Hilda Ramirez and “adopted granddaughter” Ruby Hernandez.
