Ofelia Hernandez

Ofelia Hernandez, 64, of Loving, passed away February 9, 2022 in El Paso, Texas. Visitation will be at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Loving, followed by a vigil at 7:00 PM.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with Fr. Hruday Kumar Pasala officiating. Interment will follow in Loving Cemetery. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

After attending Loving Schools, Ofelia met her husband of 48 years, Poli Hernandez Sr. Together they raised five children. They danced, dined, and laughed. Together their true love stood strong in faith and family.  Ofelia’s love had no limits. Her warm smile brought joy and comfort to all who accompanied her.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending games, activities and family cook outs.  Her laughter was contagious, as she was always in good humor.  Ofelia loved to garden. She had a variety of plants but her favorite was her roses – they were as beautiful as she was. Like her flowers, everything and everyone she surrounded herself around came to life. She loved to feed her kitties. Every morning they waited patiently by her door. She was nurturing, feeding all and anyone who stopped by her home.  One of her daily rituals was to have a cup of coffee, often with her family, and with that coffee she had freshly baked cookies. These cookies were a favorite to friends and family. Ofelia enjoyed traveling near and far. Her travels were always a family affair; from renting a cabin in Ruidoso to watching her Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh, but it was always with those she loved by her side.  She was a true matriarch. Her strong, caring and giving characteristics flourished around her family.  Her kindness and beauty will forever be ingrained into the hearts of all who knew her.  She will be missed and loved all the days of our lives. Ofelia was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco and Socorro Chavez and brother-in-law, Rick Luna.

She is survived by her husband, Poli Hernandez, Sr. of Loving; sons: Poli Hernandez, Jr. and wife, Jennifer Hernandez of Loving, Kevin Hernandez and wife, Jessica Rodriguez of Loving; daughters: Clarissa Hernandez and husband, Michael Carillo of Carlsbad, Melissa Hernandez and husband, Adrian Garcia of Carlsbad, Marcie Hernandez and fiancé, Randall Mason of Malaga; sisters Olga Rodriguez of Loving, Julia Martinez and husband, Felix Martinez of Loving, Catalina Olivas and husband, George Olivas of Roswell, Terry Luna of Tularosa, Olivia Gelofsach and husband, Joe Gelofsach of Euclid, Ohio and brother, Israel Chavez wife, Loretta Chavez of Loving; 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
