Nicolas "Nico" A. Carrasco, 92, of S. Ash Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Landsun Homes.
Visitation will be 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
A Vigil is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, 2013, 7:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Thursday, June 27, 2013, 10:00 AM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating.
Interment will follow in Santa Catarina Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Nicolas "Nico" A. Carrasco was born March 5, 1921 in Barstow, Texas to Natividad and Florencia (Alvarez) Carrasco. He married Elvira Carrasco in 1940 and they had ten children. Nico served his country in the US Army during WWII. He began working in farm and ranch for several years and later went to work for the City of Carlsbad. Nico was working for Eddy County Road Department when he retired in 1985. He enjoyed welding, cooking and hunting during his retirement. Nico also loved the outdoors and singing. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons: Benito, Luis Roque, Gilly and Freddy Carrasco; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six brothers and three sisters.
Survivors are his wife, Rosalba Garrett of Carlsbad, NM; children: Frances Galindo and and husband, Gilbert of Fontana, CA, Robert Carrasco and wife, Mary of Carlsbad, NM, Gloria Galindo and husband, Antonio of Ontario, CA, Dora Howell and husband, Tom of Carlsbad, NM, Benny Carrasco of Carlsbad, NM, Nick Carrasco, Jr. and wife, Misty of Carlsbad, NM; 30 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Antonio Galindo, Nick Carrasco, Jr., Benny Carrasco, Israel Howell, Nicky Doubrava, Steven Howell and honorary pallbearers will be Tom Howell and Shane Doubrava.
