Nick G. Salcido, 71, of Plum Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Carlsbad Medical Center. A Funeral Service is scheduled for Monday, May 11, 2015, 10:00 AM, at Walter Gerrells Performing Arts Center-Auditorium. Private interment will be in Santa Catarina Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico at a later date. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Nick G. Salcido was born July 9, 1943 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Canuto and Pabla (Gutierrez) Salcido. He graduated from Carlsbad Senior High School in 1963 and continued his education at Eastern New Mexico University. Nick married Lydia Franco May 31, 1966. Nick worked for the New Mexico Department of Labor, retiring as an office supervisor after 28 years of service. He also retired from the Army with 4 years of active service and 24 years in the National Guard. Nick was one of the founders of the dearly funded Youth Tutoring Youth Program under the ESSA program. He also worked as a consultant in the field of "Relationships between the Schools and the Chicano Community" for the University of New Mexico Cultural Studies and Awareness Program. Nick served on the Carlsbad Board of Education where he was School Board Secretary. He was a founding member of the Eddy County Hispanic Leadership Council and established a Neighborhood Association in Ward I. Nick was serving his second term as City Councilman for the City of Carlsbad, Ward I. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Vicente Almanza, Edward "Lalo" Salcido, Domingo "Mingo" Salcido, Manuela Navarrette, Luis Ornelas, Jose Salcido, Chelo Salcido, Josefa Ledesma, Carmen Tatum, and Pete Salcido. Survivors are his wife, Lydia Salcido of Carlsbad, NM; children: Anthony "Tony" Salcido and wife, Cindy of Carlsbad, NM; Pam Romero and husband, Mario of Carlsbad, NM; Nicholas Salcido, Jr. and wife, Maria of Sumter, SC; Canuto Xavier "Xava" Salcido and wife, Missy of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Mason Sarabia; Anthony Salcido; Andrea Salcido; Michael Lopez; Justin Espino; Gabrielle Salcido; Luc Salcido; Iesha Puckett; Precious Salcido; Xavier Salcido; Xachary Salcido; Xandir Salcido; great-grandchildren: Aaliyah; Evanee; Baby Aldo; Zaelynn; McKinzie; Noah; Jaxon; Evonne; Ollin; Haiden and brother, Canuto Salcido and wife, Anita of Carlsbad, NM.
