Nellie N. Alvarez

Nellie N. Alvarez, 68, of Howard Road, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Monday, June 30, 2014 at her home. There will be no public visitation, cremation has taken place. A Vigil is scheduled for Wednesday, July 2, 2014, 7:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Thursday, July 3, 2014, 10:00 AM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Vaentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Nellie N. Alvarez was born June 17, 1946 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Leon H. and Petra (Lopez) Navarrete. She attended school here and graduated form Carlsbad Senior High in 1964. She enjoyed working with special needs children at Washington Ranch and with her friends in the school cafeteria. Nellie loved cooking and baking for her family. She was a member of San Jose Catholic Church. Nellie married the love of her life, Jesus Alvarez on June 22, 1968. They had three boys, Steve, Richard and Danny Alvarez. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Petra Navarrete. Survivors are her husband, Jesus Alvarez of Carlsbad, NM; sons: Steve Alvarez and wife, Renee of Arvada, CO, Richard Alvarez of Phoenix, AZ, Danny Alvarez and wife, April of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Stephanie, Michelle, Steven, Christopher Alvarez, Tori Rodriguez; sisters: Simona Dye of Henderson, Nevada, Alicia Montanez of Roswell, NM, Lee Quintela and husband, Archie of Carlsbad, NM, Katy Crago and husband, Ralph of Prescott, AZ; brothers: Zeke Navarrete and wife, Linda of Carlsbad, NM and Leon Navarrete of Carlsbad, NM.
