Nawita "Nita" Belase, 95, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 9, 2012. A Memorial Service will be held on May 24, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Blodgett Street Baptist Church with Pastor David Prell and Pastor Adrian Cole officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Nita was born on November 21, 1916 to John Duke and Alma (Burgett) McLaughlin in Madill, OK. She married Earl Belase on July 13, 1966. Earl and Nita lived in the Grapevine and Lewisville, TX area for 28 years before retiring to Carlsbad in 1995.
Nita was in sales in ladies fashion while living in Texas. She also enjoyed doing interior design and was an artist. After retiring to Carlsbad, Nita was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Nita was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Clinton and Billy McLaughlin and sister, Mary McLaughlin. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Earl; son John E. and wife, Delores Hutcheson of Carlsbad, NM; granddaughters: Trisha Marlow of Stockton, CA, Rheganne and husband, Alex Vaughn of Deming, NM and Mica and husband, Barry McDonald of Liberty Hills, TX; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Virden and husband, Pat of Amarillo, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
