Nathen Montez

Nathen T. Montez, 36, of Carlsbad, NM, passed away October 25, 2022 after courageously battling stage 4 glioblastoma for 14 months.

Nathen was born September 20, 1986 in Roswell, New Mexico.  He graduated from Jal High School in 2005 and met his wife, Nuvia in 2007.  Nathen moved to Carlsbad in 2009.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and loved fishing since he was a child.  Nathen always had a love for cooking that turned into a love for BBQ competitions.  Over the past years, he competed in different states and won many trophies with his children by his side, teaching them his love for BBQ.  Along with BBQing, Nathen enjoyed sitting out by a lake or river fishing, listening to music with a glass of Crown and coke.  His favorite holiday was 4^th of July.  “Go big or go home” was his motto on that day.  Nathen also enjoyed going to the casino.  He didn’t always win but he never gave up.

Nathen is survived by his wife, Nuvia Montez of Carlsbad, NM; sons: Nathen Montez, Nevan Montez and Nolan Montez.
