Nadine "Chickie" Otremba, 82, passed away Friday, January 4, 2013 at Landsun Homes.
There will be no visitation and private services will be held.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Nadine "Chickie" Otremba was born November 19, 1930 in Raymond, Washington to Robert and Wealthy "Sophie" (Schultze) Horton. As a young woman, Chickie, rode and raced motorcycles and was the first woman to be allowed to race against men in Washington and she won her first race. She lived in the North end of Hoquiam and loved her friends. Later in life she worked as a clerk for the Oreo Cafe and then grocery checker for Safeway's for many years, moving to Olympia she worked for the first convenience store gas station at Texaco until retiring. She was a member of a sorority, loved music and dance, especially jitter bug with her brother, Ed and playing cards. She also loved to visit and travel with her friends, and loved to make jewelry with Marilyn Franks. Chickie and her daughter were very close and she lived with her and son-in-law, Mike for many years in Utah, before moving to Carlsbad with them. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert "Bobby" Horton; grandson, Kenneth "K.C." Dominick; nephew, Blaine Ensell; her dog, Ginger whom she was never without her by her side, the love of her life, Elmer Otremba and friend Janice Godfrey Luce.
She is survived by her daughter, Vickie Lynn Mattox and husband, Mike of Carlsbad, NM; four grandchildren: Michele Esqueda and husband, Ernie of San Diego, CA, Kathryn Reeves of Carlsbad, NM, Adam Mattox and wife, Katt of Salt Lake City, UT, Tanya Muller and husband, Rick of Iowa; nine great-grandchildren: Alexa Esqueda, Christian Esqueda, James Esqueda, Brittney Balmes, Zachary Mattox, Ayden Mattox, Jacob Muller, Shian Muller, Josee Muller; one great-great-granddaughter: Eve Alivia Balmes; sister, Barbara J. Ward and husband, Bill of Elma, Washington; brother, Edward E. Horton and wife, Susie of Milwaukee, Oregon; God-child, Kelly-Ann Moyer Olson; nieces: Cathie Reiley, Billie Coats, Jodi Gentry; nephew, Bob Ward and best friends: Mary Lou Godfrey Whitehall and Marilyn Franks.
