Obituary
Myrl L. Moore, 81, of Chico St., passed away, Sunday, January 28, 2018 at his home. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, February 1, 2018, 4:00 PM, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Boyd officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Myrl L. Moore was born March 24, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri to Eddie and Margaret Caroline (Frank) Moore. He graduated from high school in Raytown, Missouri. Myrl received a bachelor's degree at Texas Christian University and remained a dedicated horned frog fan throughout his life. He served his country in US Air Force for several years. Myrl moved to Carlsbad in 1960 where he began a long term career with the Carlsbad Municipal Schools. He attended Western New Mexico University during the summer months until earning his Masters of Arts degree. Over his 36 year tenure, Myrls service included teaching at Alta Vista, assistant principal at Carlsbad High School and Carlsbad Mid High, working at Central Office, and finally retiring as the Principal of Sunset Elementary in 1996. He married Bobbie Page April 15, 1988 here in Carlsbad. The job he loved the most was being a professional grandparent. He adored each and every one of his grandchildren taking them on many amazing adventures. Myrl was a member of the Lion's Club, First United Methodist Church, and was actively involved in Boy Scouts, proud of the fact he achieved the Eagle Scout rank. He is preceded in death by his parents, two infant daughters, grandson, Michael Strickland, brothers, Charles, Bob, Dan and Marvin Moore. Myrl is survived by his wife, Bobbie Moore, sons, Roy Stuart Moore and wife, Emily of Austin, TX., Donald Strickland, II. of Carlsbad, NM., Mike Strickland and wife, Lynn of Carlsbad, NM., grandchildren, Donald Strickland, III. and wife, Tammy, Tyler Strickland (Kaitlin), and Sara Strickland, great-grandchildren, Dietrich Strickland, Alyssa Strickland, and Rebecca Strickland and several nieces and nephews.
