Obituary
M.J. "Jerry" McCabe, 86, of N. Thomas Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at his home. Cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service in Queen at a later date.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
M.J. Jerry McCabe was born February 26, 1931 in Bellaire, Ohio to Harry and Oma (Piper) McCabe. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict from May of 1951 to May of 1955. Jerry moved to Carlsbad in 1960 to begin work at Southwest Potash which became AMAX and retired after 25 years of services. During those years he also opened and operated McCabe Auto Repair, Gulf Station and McCabe Taxi with his brother, Wilbur. Jerry served on the Carlsbad City Council for several years. After retirement, he and Betty moved to Queen which they dearly loved. Jerry was one of the founding members of the Queen Volunteer Fire Department where he has remained active through the years. He was a mechanic at heart and had a passion for working on anything with an engine. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Pauline McCabe, the mother of his daughter; second wife, Betty McCabe; brothers: Harry McCabe and wife, Dorothy, Wilbur McCabe and wife, Ann; sisters: Hilda Kaldor and husband, Stanley, Bernadine Hendershot and husband, Ab, June Glatzer and husband, Herman and Donna Hancock; brother-in-law that was like a brother, Fay Dennison and sister-in-law, Dorothy McCabe.
Survivors are his daughter, Ele Cox and husband, Jeff of Carlsbad, NM; sister, Marcella Dennison of Cleveland, Ohio; brothers: Bill McCabe and wife, Rose of Mansfield, Ohio, Walter McCabe of Bellaire, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews in Ohio and Carlsbad.
