Mick Dunn, 60, of Laguna Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away November 7, 2010 at his home. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 9, 2010, 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A Vigil is scheduled for Tuesday, November 9, 2010, 7:30 PM at San Jose Catholic Church, 1002 DeBaca, Carlsbad, NM. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday, November 10, 2010, 10:00 AM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Valentine Jankowski OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Loving Cemetery, Loving, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mick was born February 21, 1950 to Claude Farris and Mary Louise (Welsh) Dunn in Roswell, NM. The family moved to Carlsbad in 1957 where Mick attended Carlsbad schools, graduating in 1968. Mick attended NMSU at Carlsbad and also attended a horse shoeing school in Oklahoma. Mick married Velma Gonzalez Lopez in March 1982 in Carlsbad. After graduation Mick worked establishing and building trails thru the Guadalupe Mountains in the area that later became Guadalupe Mountains National Park. He also worked on the Bell Ranch in San Miguel County in eastern New Mexico. He worked in the potash mines in Carlsbad before retiring from Duval/Western Ag after 19 years. Mick worked at many occupations over the years, but he loved being a working cowboy most of all. He loved working with and riding horses. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mary Dunn and step-son, Jerome Lopez. Survivors include his wife, Velma Dunn of the home; son, Michael Dunn of the home; step-son, Dennis Lopez of California; brother, Mike Dunn and wife, Cathy of Carlsbad; sister, Nancy Goins and husband, Kenny of Amarillo, TX; sisters-in-law, Esther Aguilar and husband, Mike of Carlsbad, Lisa Lara and husband, Nacario of Pecos, TX, Nani Ortega and husband, Manuel of Carlsbad; grandchildren, Reyes and Zurie Lopez; adopted grandchildren, Melanie and Kelli Palomino; niece, Brook Bradford of Phoenix, AZ; nephews, Michael Bryan and Ivan Ryan Aguilar both of Albuquerque, NM; several great-nieces and great-nephews and special friends, the children of Felix Calderon, Sr. Mick had many friends and will be greatly missed. Pallbearers will be Roy Palomino, Efrain Rios, Mike Dunn, Mike Aguilar, Mel Perez, Chuy Nevarez and Lalo Bustamonte. Honorary pallbearers are Alex Ruiz, Angel Campos and Efren Collins.
