Michael "Stricky" Strickland

Michael "Stricky" Strickland, 24, of Leanne Drive, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Friday, July 28, 2017 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, July 29, 2017, 10:00 AM, at First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Brad Coates officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Michael “Stricky” Strickland was born January 26, 1993 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Mike and Lynn (McLemore) Strickland.  He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 2011 where he played football, baseball, basketball, and ran track.  Michael attended NMSU in Las Cruces for 3 years.  He was currently working at Celtech as a painter and was looking forward to starting a new career in oil and gas measurement.  Michael was an avid snowboarder, never turning down the opportunity to hit the slopes.  He loved playing and watching all sports, but his most cherished team was the Dallas Cowboys.  Michael loved his friends and was always there to help a friend whenever they needed something.  His friends were a huge part of his life. 

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Marion and Lelah Carey, grandmother, Arvella McLemore, and grandfather, Don Strickland. 

   Survivors are his parents, Mike and Lynn Strickland; brother, Tyler Strickland and Kaitlin Geach of Albuquerque, maternal grandparents, Loren and Ginny McLemore of Carlsbad; paternal grandparents, Myrl and Bobbie Moore of Carlsbad; step-grandfather, Ken Page of Amarillo, TX; girlfriend, Cryss Grimes; aunt, Judy McLemore of Carlsbad, uncles; Tim McLemore and wife, Tina of Denver, CO, Dewayne McLemore of Tucson, AZ, Don Strickland II of Carlsbad; Chris Robison of Albuquerque, Greg Robison and Laurie of Greenville, South Carolina; Mike Robison of Roswell; cousins, Jennifer (Aaron), Lindsey (Jason), Morgan, Matthew, Andrew, Jaden, Ethan, Laurie, Kendall, Kyla, Donald (Tammy), Sara, Dietrich, Rebecca, Alyssa, Nicole (Russell), Danielle, Josh, Patrick, Kristen, Scott, Gage, Kelsey and Trey, his new puppy Odin and many more extended family and friends. 

   Pallbearers will be Tyler Strickland, Duce Ford, James Allen, Jacob Esquibel, James Bailey, Casey McDonald, Michael Parraz and Zach Bird.  Honorary pallbearers are Martin Harges, Ryan Parraz, Jonathan Parker, Andrew Franco, Sean Navarrette, Zack Bellah, Nick Villa, Vicente Castillo and many more friends from school and beyond.
