Michael Duane Cox, 36 of McKinley Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away in his home Thursday December 10, 2015.
Michael was a loving and devoted father. He was proud of his children. He was a hard worker, a good friend and was always helping others.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents: William and Agnes (Strawbridge) Weldy and Travis A. Cline; Aunt Rosa Lee Marshall, Uncle Herman Weldy, and Niece Abigail Hidalgo Cline.
Michael Duane Cox worked in the oil field for over 13 years, 9 of which he worked as a driller. He enjoyed drawing, music, watching movies, playing video games, doing miscellaneous repairs around the house, but most of all he enjoyed all the time that he could spend with his children playing and laughing.
Michael attended McMinnville High School graduating with the class of 1997. His passion in high school was track and field where he lettered three years and held the record for the longest triple jump from 1997 to 1999. He still remains in the top 10 for the high schools triple jump from 1930-present.
Michael is survived by his parents, Travis W. and Ethel (Weldy) Cline of West Virginia; daughter, Lindsey Cox; sons: Andy Johnson, Anthony Cox and Jaymz Cox of New Mexico; stepchildren: Renee and Leslie Holman of New Mexico; grandmother, Glenda L. Cline of New Mexico; sisters: Violet and Derek Noyes of California, Patches and Jose Hidalgo of Oregon, Angeline Cline of Oregon and Trisha Cox of New Mexico.
Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday December 21, 2015 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Prell officiating.
Honorary Pallbearers are Frank Felix and David Whitzel.
Burial will be held in Carlsbad Cemetery (New Section) at 10 a.m. on Tuesday December 22, 2015.
