Merejildo Salcido Valdez, 86, of 7th Street, Loving, New Mexico, passed away August 13, 2009 at Lakeview Christian Home.
A vigil is scheduled for Sunday, August 16, 2009, 7:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church and friends my visit beginning at 6:00 PM.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, August 17, 2009, 1:30 PM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating.
Interment will follow at Loving Cemetery, Loving, New Mexico.

Merejildo was born to Felix Martinez Valdez and Salsa (Salcido) Valdez on May 14, 1923 in Balmorhea, Texas. He helped on the farm until he joined the CCC Camp and helped at the Caverns with the rock construction. Merejildo married Benustina Dominquez September 30, 1943 in Balmorhea, Texas. He initially went to work in the cotton gin in Loving. Merejildo then worked for U.S. Potash over 30 years. He also worked in the Copper Mines in Arizona and retired in 1982. Merejildo enjoyed deer hunting and gardening, but most of all spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors are his five sons: Frank Valdez and wife, Yolando of Carlsbad, Joe Valdez and wife, Freida of Las Cruces, NM, Ricky Valdez and wife, Sherry of Tucson, AZ, Manuel Valdez and wife, Bernie of Loving, NM Jesus Valdez and wife, Rosemary of Carlsbad, NM; one daughter: Cindy Valdez Gomez of Las Cruces, NM; one brother: Mike Valdez; two sisters: Amelia Franco and Ernestina Armendariz; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchilden
Pallbearers will be Francisco Valdez, Marxs Valdez, Richard Valdez, James Valdez, Michael Valdez and Eric Valdez.
