Melvina P. Small

Melvina P. Small, 95, of Pinon Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away September 27, 2009 at Lakeview Christian Home. Visitation will be 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Funeral Services are scheduled for Thursday, October 1, 2009, 11:00 AM, at Sunset Church of Christ with Mike Veilleux officiating. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Melvina P. Small was born on June 21, 1914 to John Commodore and Effie Mae (Myrick) Parman. She graduated from Cordell High School and attend Southwest Teacher's College in Weatherford for 2 years. Melvina married Joseph Leon Small March 14, 1937 in Cordell, OK and the next day they moved to Carlsbad, NM where they later raised their two children. She helped her husband in the construction business several years and also at the Car Parts Store and Gibson's. Melvina started her 27 year career with Lakeview Christian Home in 1967 where she worked as a bookkeeper and did not retire until she was 80 years of age. She enjoyed swimming at the natatorium, visiting friends, and attending Bible Class. Melvina was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leon "Red" Small in 1966 and son, Commodore Small in 2008. She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Jo Randall of Ames, IA; one daughter-in-law, Vickie Small of Midland, TX; four grandchildren: Jean Randall, Vickie Ann Beebe and husband, Willson, Mike Small and wife, Georgann, Charles Randall and wife, Stephanie and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Neatherlin, Steve Peterson, Virgil Smith, Mike Small, Willson Beebe and Don Roberts. Memorial contributions may be made to Lakeview Christian Home, 1905 W.
